Please watch a little tv with a notebook or paper and pencil ready to write. As you watch, look for the setting. Try to watch the part where the setting stays the same for a bit. As you are watching, jot down a few notes about what you notice about the setting. Can you tell what the weather is? What time it is? Day or night? What colors do you see? What's up high the setting? What's low? What does the camera show in more detail?
Post answer in the comments below: "What parts of the setting helped you, as the viewer, understand the story more deeply? How can you include more setting details in your narrative writing piece?" Please answer both questions, in at least 5 complete sentences total.

On T.V. this morning, I watched The Amazing World Of Gumball and on the setting Gumball's room. Up high there was Gumball's bed on the top bunk, there was a poster on the ceiling and Darwin's fishbowl on top of the dresser. And down low there was Aniese's bed on the lower bunk their dresser and a skateboard on the floor. And in the middle there was their computer and some posters.

On T.V this afternoon I watched National Geographic Lions, African Reality. The setting made me understand the story more deeply by knowing that these lions lived in Africa near the forest in mostly rural territory. There were a few trees on the prairie that the lions lived on.The weather was very hot and sunny where the lions lived.

In the movie Spirited Away, I saw that it was Japanese because the signs had Japanese writing and the buildings had unusual roofs. There was a bathhouse on the spirit side of the river and there are rarely any bathhouses in the US. This helped me understand the mythical creatures and why no one wears shoes. I can include more setting details by adding more details to what Burn Stronghold looks like. I can add how sandy it was and how dusty the sides of the stronghold looked. I think I could have added more similes into my writing by comparing the setting to somewhere a lot of people have been like Arches.

My mom took me to see "Middle School, the worst years of my life". The setting helped me understand the story more deeply by how the main character, Rafe showed how rules are not for everyone. He broke all of the 126 rules in the rule book. The first thing he did was put sticky notes all over the school (the setting). Another rule he broke was "no art" he painted pictures on the outside of the school building. In my story I could describe how my backyard looks, smells, sounds and feels. I could use a lot of nouns, verbs and adjectives and even the thesaurus to help make my story more interesting.

Today I watched Milo Murphy's Law and I noticed that the setting was daytime because there weren't any stars and the sky wasn't black and it wasn't raining. I know because the clouds were white and not grey. It is fall because there were Brown trees and orange trees. In the background I saw orange trees Brown trees and green trees. I can add details to my settings because I can tell what type of day it is, what time it is, show clock for what time it is, all of that.

1. I watched the Thundermans, the setting was in the kitchen. There was a refrigerator with kids drawings and books on top, and a teapot on a stove. It looked very normal.

I watched Arthur, it is a PBS kids show. The setting was a restaurant. I could tell it was a restaurant because there were lots of tables, other people were eating at those tables there were napkins. I can add more detail by adding a kitchen door, a sign that said restrooms and a waiter taking orders and bringing food to everyone.

I watched the last unicorn. The setting helped me under stand the story more deeply because the forest is magical like the unicorn. The hunters said it is never winter in the forest because the unicorn is there. The forest is very important because it is her home. I could include more details in my writing by describing how the setting looks and feels, like leaves sway in the wind and the sweet smell of the grass under my feet.

I watched Mickey mouse with my siblings. The setting showed that there were many trees and it looked foggy so it was obviously foggy. It also showed the moon so it was night. That was why they had to use a flashlight.

I watched a baseball playoff game. It was taking place in Toronto in a baseball stadium. Cleveland and Toronto were playing. They were playing in a dome, so up high there was a roof and lights. Down low there was grass and dirt on the field. There was a big crowd there and they were cheering for Toronto.

I watched Steven Universe. The setting helped me as the viewer because they are magical gem people that live in a temple. They all have their own room; exp. Amethyst's room is messy and that tells me she is unorganized. Pearl's room is very organized, that tells me she is clean and organized. I can include more detail in my narrative writing piece by describing my setting with sensory details. One sensory detail from each sense. EXP. I was running so fast I could feel the wind blowing swiftly through my hair as I looked around the dim-lighted room.

The show I watched was Richie Rich. It was about celebrating Steph Curry the basketball player's birthday and it was set on Richie's yacht. On the yacht there was music and dancing and it was a big party so it helped me see it as a real birthday party. I can add more by adding more sensory details. I can add more of what my character is feeling.

I watched Animaniacs and there was a studio so they were in a movie lot. Wich is why they talked about movie lots. There was a blue sky with no clouds. So it was a clear day. I can put more descriptive language into my story.
